Het heeft even geduurd voor The 1975 weer muziek uitbracht. Gelukkig is dat het wachten helemaal waard, want de band heeft alleen maar goed nieuws voor hun luisteraars!
'Give Yourself A Try'
"The 1975 is kind of like my diary," heeft frontman Matty eens tegen NPR Music gezegd. "I'm either really, really frank or it's kind of conversational." In hun nieuwe single wil hij het allebei. Het nummer 'Give Yourself A Try' begint als een soort verhaal wat hij vertelt, maar al snel nemen gitaren het over.
Matty heeft het in de tekst over opgroeien: 'You learn a couple things when to get to my age / Like friends don't lie and it all tastes the same in the dark / When your vinyl and your coffee collection is a sign of the times / You're getting spiritually enlightened at 29.' Om achter andere levenslessen te komen moet je het nummer gewoon maar effe luisteren!

De video
De clip bij 'Give Yourself A Try' is geregisseerd door Diane Martel, die ook verantwoordelijk is voor de video van 'Love Me'. Ze maakte meteen twee versies! De eerste met tekst voor onder andere Spotify, de andere is de officiële video die je hieronder checkt.

Dat de video juist vandaag uitkomt, op 1 juni, is geen toeval. Frontman Matty kreeg het boek On the Road van Jack Kerouac op een rommelmarkt. De achterkant zag er nogal vet uit en onderaan stond ‘1st June, The 1975’. Zo hadden ze meteen hun bandnaam te pakken!
Nieuwe albums
'Give Yourself A Try' staat op het derde album van de band: A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships, dat in oktober uit moet komen. The 1975 speelt het nummer voor het eerst op BBC Radio 1. Fans wachten al even op nieuw werk van de band en de jongens hebben daar flink gebruik van gemaakt door veel te teasen op social media.

Matty Healy vertelt hoe hij tegen het opnemen van muziek aankijkt. "I’ve always said I want to do three albums. So I kind of set out to do that and then when I started making this record, the primary drive of why I make music — which is because it’s kind of really the only thing that makes me happy. [That] kicked in at such a rate I thought well, 'I'm not going to stop doing The 1975 now."
Hij heeft een mooie verrassing voor de fans. In plaats van één album, maken ze er gewoon meteen twee! "I’m going to do loads of albums, not so many that we spoil it but I’m not stopping making records now because I just couldn’t bear the idea of it. So I thought right, ‘Well, Music for Cars is going to be an era then. It’s going to be a time when we put out a collection of music.' So it starts with two albums."
