- Elbow brengt nieuwe single 'Empires' uit
Wie hun set op Pinkpop 2019 zag, heeft 'm al een keer gehoord. De nieuwe single van Elbow: 'Empires'. Ze spelen 'm al een tijdje live, maar nu is hij dan ook officieel gereleased als voorproefje op hun nieuwe album.
Frontman Guy Garvey en zijn bandleden brengen binnenkort alweer hun achtste album uit. Giants Of All Sizes komt uit op 11 oktober en volgt hun laatste plaat Little Fictions uit 2017 op.
'Empires'
Het is een donkere track. Met lyrics als: "Empires crumble all the time | Pay it no mind | You just happened to witness mine | Don't let all the light fall from your eyes | Come come | Empires crumble all the time"
Over hoe de track is ontstaan vertelt toetsenist Graig Potter: "With time to spare, we sat around and played together in a way we haven’t for a long time and experimented and improvised with the music which led to the looser feel you hear on ‘Empires’."

Nieuw album
Eerder dit jaar vertelde Garvey aan NME hoe verschillend het nieuwe album gaat zijn ten opzichte van de vorige. "We started recording in a new city, in Hamburg, we changed the way we worked and we all decided from the off to let the songs take the lead, without compromising the vision of each tune."
Het is volgens de zanger een donker en tikkeltje guur album, maar het heeft een (misschien ietwat beschadigd) groot hart. "t was a pleasure to make and we are all immensely proud of it."
