Dave Grohl pinkt nog steeds een traantje weg als hij 'Everlong' speelt

Dave is toch echt al een jaar of twintig onderdeel van de Foo's dus je zou je kunnen voorstellen dat hij inmiddels wel een beetje moe wordt van al die 'oude' classics spelen. En heel soms is dat ook zo: "Oh yeah, there are nights when you're thinking about what toppings are on the pizza in the bus and whether you need to do laundry tomorrow." Maar toch, als hij 'Everlong' inzet is dat toch wel een bijzondere moment.

Dave: "It immediately brings you back. We're not robots! What chokes me up is when I see people singing lyrics back to me with the same emotion. So if you hear me kind of giggling in the middle of a song, it's because I'm trying not to just fucking totally break down in front of everybody like a fool."

Publiek overal

Inmiddels zijn de Foo Fighters ook op het punt beland dat ze niet alleen maar hardcore fans voor hun neus hebben staan, maar hele arena's en stadions kunnen vullen. Ze gaan al zo lang mee dat ze niet langer een band zijn, maar meer een fenomeen dat je gezien moet hebben. Dave: "I see people in their sixties and seventies. I see kids that are ten years old, teenagers, and it seems to me that when we come to town, people hear there’s a rock show and they just come on out. So we’ve gotten to the point where I think that we represent something... uhm... general, haha!"

Hij denkt trouwens ook dat de Arctic Monkeys de volgende band is die deze next level status gaat bereiken: "There's so many great rock and roll bands that have the same opportunity that we had, the path isn't overgrown! There are bands that can still do it. I mean, don’t you imagine that at some point the Arctic Monkeys will be doing the same thing?"
