Het was de avond van de jonkies, zo concludeerde de New York Times; artiesten die tot een paar jaar geleden nog onbekend waren en nu opeens met de belangrijkste awards aan de haal gaan. Vicepresident Bill Freimuth van de organisatie die de Grammy's uitreikt zei ook dat de editie van 2013 een overgangsjaar was waarbij het stokje doorgegeven wordt aan nieuwe artiesten. Eén van hen was de New Yorkse band Fun. die niet alleen Beste nieuwkomer werd, maar met 'We Are Young' ook de Song of the Year in handen had.
Mumford & Sons, The Black Keys en Skrillex
Album of the Year werd 'Babel' van Mumford & Sons, terwijl het er lange tijd naar uitzag dat de Britse folkband met lege handen achter zou blijven. De groep was genomineerd in vele categorieën, maar zag gedurende de avond steeds andere artiesten winnen. Zo gingen The Black Keys met elke award op rockgebied naar huis. El Camino werd Beste rockalbum terwijl de single 'Lonely Boy' werd uitgeroepen tot Beste rocksong en Beste rock optreden. Ook werd Dan Auerbach van The Black Keys Beste producer. Waar The Black Keys overheersten in de rock, deed Skrillex dat in de dance. De Canadees won met zijn 'Bangarang' zowel in Beste dance opname als Beste dance album.
Gotye en Het Metropole Orkest
Daarnaast ging ook de Australische Belg Gotye er nog met drie belangrijkste prijzen vandoor. Zijn hit 'Somebody That I Used To Know' met Kimbra eindigde bovenaan in Record of the Year en Beste optreden pop groep/duo. Daarnaast verdiende Gotye een Grammy voor Beste alternatieve album met Making Mirrors. De avond had ook nog een Nederlands tintje kunnen hebben, want het Metropole Orkest was genomineerd in twee categorieën. De groep greep echter naast beide awards.
Los Angeles
De Grammy Awards werden voor de 55ste keer uitgereikt. De show vond plaats in Los Angeles en werd gehost door LL Cool J. Er waren optredens van onder andere Elton John en Ed Sheeran, Alicia Keys en Maroon 5, Bruno Mars, Rihanna en Sting, Justin Timberlake en Carrie Underwood.
