Laura Marling: "It's a good time to listen to music"

"Let the album happen now"

Laura Marling is een folk artiest uit Londen en bracht haar eerste album uit op haar zeventiende. Inmiddels is ze dertig en brengt haar zevende plaat uit: Song For Our Daughter.

3FM-dj Vera Siemons sprak met haar over dit album, dat eigenlijk in augustus pas zou uitkomen, maar Laura vond het in april al tijd: “It seemed very simple to me that it was done. Usually people wanna do a good job and the reason that an album is delayed is because people can do their jobs properly. But it doesn’t seem that the future is any near certain and we have no idea when normality might return. So the album was done and we thought we should let the album happen now. I think it's a good time to listen to music.”

Guitar Tutorials

Laura is eigenlijk niet zo'n fan van social media, maar sinds de lockdown post ze gitaarlessen van haar tracks. "I've been doing these guitar tutorials. That's been a nice addition to my routine actually. It's a great interaction with people, to encourage people to pick up the guitar and give it another go."

Song For Our Daughter

Toepasselijk dat je nu thuis het nieuwe album van Laura Marling kunt oefenen, want het album is ook grotendeels bij Laura thuis opgenomen, in haar thuisstudio. Ze wil vrouwen meer stimuleren om te experimenteren, maar in haar ogen gaat dat niet altijd even makkelijk in de wereld van de professionele studio's, waar bijna alleen maar mannen werken. "In my twelve years as a recording artist, I came across two female engineers and one female producer that I've met in my world." Haar album Song For Our Daughter is dan ook gericht naar haar jongere zelf, maar ook naar vrouwelijke muzikanten.
