QOTSA zijn het afgelopen jaar hun Pink Duck Studios weer ingedoken en kwamen eruit met Villains: een nieuw album waar al je Elvis-moves op los kunt laten. Wat heeft frontman Josh Homme te zeggen over dit nieuwe project?

Er staan wel wat langzamere nummers op het album, maar één ding is duidelijk: Josh Homme wil dat je danst op deze plaat. Daarmee riskeert 'ie dat fans van 'het oudere werk' het misschien minder goed vinden, maar dat maakt hem niets uit: "There's no reason to not conjoin rock'n'roll and dance and hallelujah and darkness and all that, in one thing. In a world of desperately going for likes, Villains is more like 'We'll take the dislikes'. This album is here to do bad guy stuff."
Die houding is precies wat Mark Ronson, de man achter 'Uptown Funk' en nu dus ook producer van Villains, zo cool vindt aan Josh: "There's a huge amount of respect for Josh. He's changed from album to album, but never sold out. Most of us wish we were that bad-ass but he actually is."

Persoonlijke track
Waar je op 'The Way You Used To Do' al je sexy moves kunt oefenen ("That song is about screwing, after all...") en op 'Head Like A Haunted House' even ouderwets kunt rocken, is het bij 'Fortress' effe rustig. Homme schreef het nummer voor een geliefde en het kostte hem aardig wat tijd in de studio om het nummer precies te krijgen zoals hij het wilde hebben. Hij vertelt aan Q Magazine: "The chorus is almost inspirational for me and that's harder to do. It's hard to say 'I love you' sometimes without sounding like a goof, but there's a way to say all things."
